Committees
The Australian Racing Board has established a number of committees with responsibilities in strategic or administrative roles within thoroughbred racing in Australia.
Australian Pattern Committee
The Australian Pattern Committee recommends to the Australian Racing Board (ARB) which Australian races are worthy of"Black Type"status. Of great importance to race clubs, breeders and owners, the Listings of Group and Listed races are approved and published by the ARB and are accepted by the International Cataloguing Standards Committee for publication in 'The Blue Book', thereby achieving international recognition for Australia's best races.

Australia and New Zealand Classifications
The Australia and New Zealand Classifications Committee operates under the direction of the Australian Racing Board and New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing to oversee a system of classifications assigned to horses which have raced in Group and Listed races within Australia and New Zealand.

National Race Planning Committee
The National Race Planning Committee oversees the calendar of racing dates in Australia, with an emphasis on the promotion of Black Type races.
