Minimum Weights

At the Australian Racing Board’s meeting today a letter was tabled from the Australian Jockeys Association requesting an increase in the minimum riding weight from 53kg to 54kg. The AJA’s letter was accompanied by the results of a national survey of its members on this issue.

PRODUCTIVITY COMMISSION DRAFT REPORT

The Productivity Commission has today released the draft report of its inquiry into Australia’s gambling industries.

Warning on the use of hydrocortisone sodium succinate (Solu-Cortef) within 48 hours of racing.

As from 1 October 2009, a new testing method will be introduced by the Australian racing laboratories which will allow the direct detection of hydrocortisone hemisuccinate (arising from the use of hydrocortisone sodium succinate) in blood and urine.

WHIP CONTROLS

The Australian Racing Board has announced its decisions arrived at after receiving recommendations made by the panel.

Whip Rules

The Australian Racing Board and the Australian Jockeys Association have reached agreement on future application of the rules which govern use of the whip. Under the existing rules that became effective as of 1st August 2009 riders are allowed to use padded whips.

Whip Reform Stays

The Australian Racing Board has today considered the results to date of the sweeping changes to the whip rules that came into effect on 1st August 2009.
