Australian Racing Industry Supports ANZAC Day Commemorations
Race Clubs across Australia will hold ANZAC Day race meetings with special commemorative activities and programmed feature races, forming part of Australian racing’s commemoration of the ANZAC spirit.
An ANZAC Day national minute of silence will be observed at 2:31 pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) at all race meetings around Australia as a mark of respect for all those men and women who have served in Australia’s armed forces.
“An Australia-wide minute of silence allows the Australian Thoroughbred Racing Industry to come together and signify its respect for this important national occasion”ARB Chairman, Andrew Ramsden said today.
“I think it is important that we give all of those people who attend the races on ANZAC day the opportunity to collectively reflect on the deeds of those who have fought for Australia and honour the outstanding commitment made by these men and women.”
Metropolitan meetings will be held at Randwick, Flemington, Eagle Farm, Victoria Park and Ascot on ANZAC day. SKY Channel is observing the national minute of silence and will also broadcast the commemoration ceremony being held at Flemington.
The ceremony at Flemington will include traditional ceremonial procedures such as the reading of the ode by Major George Logan RFD, a rendition of the Last Post and the Australian National Anthem played by the Essendon City Band.
Elsewhere around Australia there will be will similar ceremonies to honour the ANZAC spirit with most Race clubs offering free entry to all Returned Service Men and Women.
The specially designed ANZAC Day Silks will be worn by jockeys at a number of racecourses around Australia which will add to the significance of the racing industry’s commitment to this commemoration day.
